Robert HEARFIELD == Mary WARD
Robert's birth | 11 October 1746: Robert s. of Joseph and Dorathy Hathfield bapt. at Bilton Ainsty | IGI |
Mary's birth | 28 April 1748: Mary Ward, d. of John Ward, bapt. at Bedale | IGI |
Marriage | 22 May 1773: Robert Hearfield and Mary Ward both of this parish were married in this church by banns this twenty second day of May 1773 by me J. Storey Curate. This marriage was solemnised between us Robert Hearfield Mary Ward X her mark in the presence of George Nelson, Mary Ingledew. | Northallerton PR |
Children | 24 April 1775: Edith, daughter of Mary and Robert Harefield, bapt. and buried 22 March 1776: Mary, daughter of Mary and Robert Harefield, bapt. 1777? -- James born -- no mention in PR 23 June 1778: Robert, s. of Mary and Robert Harefield, bapt. 5 November 1782: Joseph, s. of Mary and Robert Harefield, Husbandman, bapt. 5 November 1782: Benjamin, s. of Mary and Robert Harefield, Husbandman, bapt. | Northallerton PR |

Mary's death | 1830: Mary Hearfield died at Northallerton aged 82 | NBI |
Comment . . . It's curious that James' birth isn't mentioned in the PR if he really is Robert and Mary's son. He said he was 30 in 1807, so born 1776/7. The dates are marginal. It's possible that they moved briefly out of the parish and then returned, of course. But if he wasn't their son, I don't know who he was.
Mary HEARFIELD == George HOGG
Mary's birth | 22 March 1776: Mary, daughter of Mary and Robert Harefield, bapt. | Northallerton PR |
Marriage | Q4 1839: George Hogg married Mary Hearfield at Northallerton. | BMD records |
1841 Census: Topcliffe |
Mary Hogg | 60 | (head?) | Grocer | (Widow?) [with 2 lodgers] | b.Yks |
John Hogg | 35 | (son?) | Ag lab | (Unmarried?) | b.Yks
Thomas Hogg | 20 | (son?) | Ag lab | (Unmarried?) | b.Yks
Brian Hogg | 15 | (son?) | Tailor | (Unmarried?) | b.Yks |
Comment . . . This too is uncertain. I think that the Mary who married George Hogg was Robert and Mary's daughter (though if so she married very late in life). Incidentally, Mary's marriage is recorded TWICE (as Vol.24 p.423), once in Q4 1839, and again in 1844 - the latter entry is wrong. I suspect that the Mary Hogg in the 1841 Census is the same person - Topcliffe is just 10 miles south of Northallerton - and that the children belong to George's previous marriage. But it's all very speculative.
Benjamin HEARFIELD == Susan SHIPWAY

Benjamin Hearfield | 58 | Head | Cabinet maker | Married | b.Northallerton |
Susannah Hearfield | 40 | Wife | Ostrich feather maker | Married | b.St.Lukes, Mdx |
Comment . . . Benjamin left Yorkshire and settled in London! His marriage to Susannah doesn't seem to have resulted in children, though. I can't find Benjamin anywhere in the 1861 Census.
